Home Sports Swimming series to start in October

WINDHOEK – The eagerly awaited Bank Windhoek Long Course Swimming Series is set to kick off next month and ends in April 2015.

Bank Windhoek has sponsored the Namibia Swimming Union (NASU) with N$100 000 to host the series with the ultimate goal of developing the sport and groom swimmers that will compete at national and international levels in the near future.

The Long Course season includes 10 swimming galas and a five-day Bank Windhoek Namibia National Long Course Swimming Championship.

“Bank Windhoek is proud to be associated with the Namibia Swimming Union as swimming continues to be one of the sport codes in Namibia that performs well at regional and international level. The participation of our swimmers at these competitions continues to grow every year and last year, some of them broke swimming records, including winning four medals (two golds, silver and bronze) at the African Youth Games Swimming competition, which was held in Gaborone, Botswana in May this year.

Three swimmers have also qualified for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games which took place in Nanjing, China from 16-28 August”, said Sanet de Waal, Communication Practitioner: Stakeholder Engagement and Bank Windhoek.

The administration of NASU expressed their gratitude for the generous sponsorship as it contributes immensely to the development of the sport. They further encourage anyone who is interested in taking up swimming as a sport to contact NASU for more information.

NASU, which has been operating since the 1950’s, is affiliated with the Namibian Sport Commission (NSC) and the Namibian National Olympic Committee, and internationally with the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and the African Swimming Federation (CANA).
