Try Again FC targets top spot … wants to restore southern pride

KEETMANSHOOP – Try Again Football Club are firmly focused on finishing top of the Southern Stream First Division League as they chase promotion to the Namibia Premier Football League.

After round seven last weekend, the Keetmanshoop-based side trails leaders Mariental Sports Club by just one point. Try Again sit on 14 points, while Mariental lead the standings on 15.

Speaking to New Era Sport, team manager Jeffrey Booise said the time has come for a Keetmanshoop team to compete with the country’s elite. “For years, many of our talented youngsters have been scouted and absorbed by top teams elsewhere. Now it’s our turn to prove that we can compete on our own and shine at the highest level,” he said.

Try Again were held to a 1–1 draw by Dates Eleven FC last weekend, a result Booise described as costly.

A victory would have taken his side to the top of the log, especially after Mariental were also held to a 1–1 draw by Young Brazilians.

“We missed several golden chances, but the belief is still there. We remain optimistic and focused on improving and winning more matches going forward,” he added.

Looking ahead to the final stages of the season, scheduled for 18 to 19 April, Booise expressed strong confidence in his youthful squad.

“These boys come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and football gives them a chance to show their worth in life. They are motivated, hungry and determined to reach the top. Many hope to be scouted by bigger teams that can offer financial incentives for strong performances,” he said.

Booise also appealed to the local business community for support, noting that the club currently has no official sponsor.

“I am calling on local businesses and corporates to come on board and support our cause. This is about developing unemployed youth in our town,” he stressed.

He further praised his players for maintaining a high level of discipline throughout the campaign, saying it has helped them avoid unnecessary penalties and injuries.

In another weekend action, Orlando Pirates edged Ramblers FC 1–0 in Windhoek, while at the coast Celtic FC secured a 1–0 win over Blue Boys. The standings see Mariental Sports Club leading with 15 points, followed by

Try Again FC and Friends FC, both on 14 points. Friends sit third due to an inferior goal difference of three, compared to Try Again’s five.

Ramblers FC are 11th with five points, while Oranjemund FC prop up the table on four points.
