KEETMANSHOOP – //Kharas Regional Council chairperson Gerrit Witbooi has assured residents that service delivery will remain uninterrupted despite the arrest of the Ralph Sachika, the council’s chief regional officer (CRO) last week.
He made this statement during a press conference last week, following Sachika’s arrest by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Sachika faces charges of corruptly using office or position for gratification, forgery and uttering a forged document and the acquisition, possession or use of unlawful activities.
“However, with my fellow councillors, we have approached this matter with diligence and responsibility, carefully considering all implications before taking decisions in the best interest of the institution and the people we serve,” Witbooi said.
The politician went on to state that the matter of the former CRO is now before the courts and that it is the council’s responsibility to ensure that the statutory institution’s operations continue uninterrupted.
The chairperson then announced that, “In compliance with the provisions of the Regional Councils Act 22 of 1992, a full council convened and resolved to appoint Megameno Shikongo as acting chief regional officer from 11 February 2026 for a period of three months or until such time that a substantive CRO is appointed”.
