Witness wanted in double murder trial

Home Crime and Courts Witness wanted in double murder trial

Windhoek

The defence team of a 67-year-old man charged with two counts of murder is looking for a State witness that could possibly help the pensioner’s case. Mbanga Siyomunji yesterday asked Judge Alfred Siboleka to issue an order for the Registrar of the High Court to subpoena one Christian Beukes from Schlip in the Rehoboth district to testify in defence of the old man.
It is suspected that Beukes is expected to substantiate some of the testimony Eliakim Nampindi gave when he related his side of the story late last year.
Nampindi pleaded not guilty to two murder charges and one count of attempted murder in the Windhoek High Court before Judge Siboleka at the start of January 2014.It is alleged that he killed Paul Fredericks, 46, at Hoachanas in the Mariental District on March 5, 2009.
It is further alleged that while out on bail for the first murder and on a warrant of arrest after he failed to return to court, he killed his life partner, Anetta Jantjies, at Kalkrand during the period August 3 to 4, 2011.
He is also charged with attempting to kill Salmon Rooinasie by stabbing him with a knife or sharp object in the back on the same night.
The trial has been postponed to March 30 for the witness to be traced.
