Women of Purpose (WoP), a community-based organisation, is sharpening its roles in society through education, community support and collaboration.
Founded in 2022, WoP is composed of six women who came together with the idea of making a difference in society. They are Diana Tjitemisa, Migal Tujama Nganiva, Elise Mauano, Jasmine Tjikundi, Jenny-fa Maendo Batista and Venoo Kambonga.
Tjitemisa, the organisation president, said WoP is a collection of women united by a shared vision to make a positive impact in their communities and in the lives of others.
“The aim is to touch lives within the community by encouraging a healthy society through education, peace, stability and unity. This means that the organisation aims to improve the well-being of the community by empowering people with knowledge, encouraging peaceful relationships, promoting stable and supportive families, and bringing individuals together to work in harmony,” she said.
Tjitemisa added that through education, community support and collaboration, WoP seeks to create a positive environment where people respect one another, live peacefully, and contribute to building a stronger, united and healthier society.
The organisation so far has helped needy school-going pupils with sanitary pads and bought school bags and uniforms for the less privileged students, which is a very helpful ingenuity. This, she said, will help keep learners in school; hence, such instances contribute to school dropouts. The project also provided clothes and food to the day care of Magreth Owoses, who owns a soup kitchen in Nama Tien. In terms of funding, Tjitemisa said the members do monthly contributions together as a team, do fundraising projects like selling plates and get help here and there. She then recommended that stakeholders and business leaders engage them in this vital community initiative.
“Every project or event requires funding; even if one has to travel to rural communities, you need proper funding to do so,” she said, adding that any good Samaritans can get hold of them at womenofpurpose864@gmail. com or at mobile +264 812 072312.
Additionally, the organisation, through its youth empowerment programmes, hosted various youth events that included important topics like the importance of education, mental health and many more.
Recently, WoP hosted a panel discussion event through a livestream platform called ‘Omabako Yozokereka’ under the auspices of the Kahengava Foundation.
“The main topic for discussion was ‘who is responsible for youth behaviour’? Is it parents, society or schools?” said Tjitemisa.
The discussion was moderated by Mbaha and composed of Raymo Kapuuo, Turipamue Kazenango and Kueekuje Kazapua as panellists.
Namibia Christian Apostles and Prophet Association’s Archbishop Theo Pura, Vinomaandero Murirua of Step-by-Step Organisation and Omurari FM representatives were in attendance.
