Rounds four and five of the FNB Women’s Super League continued with plenty of action last weekend across three venues, namely the Julinho Athletic Stadium and Unam Sport Stadium in Windhoek, as well as the Uukwagula Stadium in Oshakati.
One of the standout fixtures in Windhoek saw Unam Bokkies edge past Nust Babes FC with a 2-1 victory in a highly contested varsity derby at the Unam Sport stadium.
The encounter lived up to expectations, with both sides showing intensity and determination, but it was Unam Bokkies who capitalised on their chances to secure all three points.
In Oshakati, African Stars Queens delivered a dominant performance against Desert Foxes FC at the Uukwagula Stadium on Saturday. Ivone Nhange got the Queens off to a good start, opening the scoring just 38 seconds into the match to set the tone early.
Her early strike unsettled the Desert Foxes defence, allowing African Stars Queens to take control of the match, which eventually ended in a convincing 3-0 victory.
At the Julinho Athletic Stadium in Windhoek, current log leaders NDF Mighty Gunners Ladies FC were held to a goalless draw by their closest challengers, FC Ongos Ladies, in what was one of the most anticipated fixtures of the round.
Despite the lack of goals, the match was played at a high tempo, with both sides creating scoring opportunities.
FC Ongos head coach Shama Gure acknowledged that his team missed three clear-cut chances, which proved costly on the day.
“I think it was just an unfortunate day in the office, but we hope to come back better and stronger in the next encounter,” said Gure.
He added that the tactical instruction was clear: to push forward and go for goals, but his side failed to convert their chances.
Mighty Gunners assistant coach Mathias Haimbodi described the encounter as an important match, highlighting his team’s unity and ability to create opportunities despite the draw.
In another encounter, Windhoek City Sporting Club came from behind to defeat Julinho Athletic 3-2 at Julinho’s training grounds in Windhoek. Julinho Athletic went into halftime leading 2-0, but Windhoek City SC mounted a strong second-half comeback.
Despite the victory, Windhoek City SC head coach Hafeni Ndeitunga admitted he was not fully satisfied with his team’s overall performance, noting that they could have performed better.
