Workers nabbed for shoplifting

Home Crime and Courts Workers nabbed for shoplifting

WINDHOEK – Six employees from local clothing retailer, Legit, were found with merchandise allegedly stolen from the shop in their respective dwellings.

They made a first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Magistrate Hileni Kavara.

Esther Paulus, Julia Naukushu, Priskila Haule, Elizabeth Ndahambelela, Sophia Nghitiwa and Tuliki Nghindengwa were not asked to plead, but were informed of their rights to legal representation. Paulus, Naukushu, Ndahambelela and Nghindengwa informed Kavara that they will conduct their own defence while Haule said that she will apply for legal aid and Nghitiwa said she will engage a private lawyer.

According to information available a search was conducted at the accused person’s lodgings after an initial investigation fingered them with theft.

Clothing items valued at N$1 339.92 were found under a bed and in a closet of the room Paulus shared with Naukushu and Haule, while clothing valued at N$3 789.75 was found in the possession of Haule and more clothing valued at N$5 029.80 was found among Naukushu’s belongings.

At the dwelling of Ndahambelela clothing worth N$769.94 was found and N$389.95 worth of clothing was found at the house of Nghitiwa, while clothing worth N$1 349.90 was found at the house of Nghindengwa.

They were each granted bail of N$1 000 and warned that should they pay bail to return to the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on February 17 next year.
