Youth advised to pursue business dreams

Local entrepreneur Samuel Chikambi has advised Namibian youth to do what they love and not wait for a job or connections.

“No one will open a door for you if you don’t try. Fear can lead to killing your dreams. Always be self-motivated that you can do it with God and nothing is impossible,” advised
Chikambi.

Driven by the ambition to put bread on the table for his family and friends while creating much-needed employment
in the economy, Chikambi founded his business, TMU Holdings, in 2016.

TMU Holdings offers bookkeeping, company secretarial, and consulting services. The company also provides micro-lending services, a pawn shop, and supply and delivery services.

“Starting one’s own business is never an easy thing. It takes a whole lot of discipline because it is a process that a lot of self-made business owners can attest to. Every time I worked for a company, I learned fast and acquired more wisdom to solve problems fast. I think this was also fuelled by the
fact that I was always
enthusiastic. Subsequently, my dream to create a better life for me and my family and to create employment grew bigger and bigger, and that led me here,” Chikambi narrated while
sharing his journey with New Era.

He added that through a process of constantly learning, many challenges relating to corporate governance and industry diversification were resolved. He pointed out that his major challenge was industry adaptability, which he admitted was a bit intense as he had to learn everything by himself.

Additionally, Chikambi stated that the Covid-19 pandemic did not only leave many entrepreneurial businesses in dire straits but also resulted in other opportunities on how to successfully run a business.

“The Covid-19 pandemic affected one area of my business but it also gave birth to new opportunities, particularly in the supply and delivery of pharmaceuticals goods. I have learned a lot from being an office-based employer to working remotely. It was challenging but we have managed to adapt,” said the budding entrepreneur.
