WINDHOEK-The Jan Jonker Afrikaner Secondary School principal along with the teachers and some learners of the school recently visited d the Megameno Orphanage home at Shandubala in Katutura with aims of helping the learners build a strong relationship and communication with the community.

According to the School principal, Jason Johannes, the school has many learners from orphanage homes. “As teachers and parents we have the responsibility to educate our learners, to teach them how to share, so they will be able to help those who are in need,” says Johannes.

Maria Shaalukeni, owner of the orphanage says many of the children at the orphanage came directly from the hospital when they were babies and do not know their parents. “These are the children who deserve to be loved and cared for instead of being abandoned,” she says.

During their visit the school also donated clothes, food and blankets. The school choir and HIV/AIDS Awareness Club performed for the children. The school visited the orphanage as part of its social responsibility as a (UNESCO) school.

Megameno is a home for children including infants, toddlers and teens, some of whom are HIV positive.
