All roads will lead to Eenhana on August 26 where President Hifikepunye Pohamba is expected to officiate at the Heroes’ Day celebrations.

The occasion is expected to be graced by the presence of the Father of the Nation and Swapo President Sam Nujoma, members of the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries.

A day before the event at Eenhana, the Head of State will officiate at the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF) that will take place from August 24 to September 1.

According to the Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Information and Media Relations, Karlous Max Shinohamba, the occasion at Eenhana will also witness the proper burial of human remains believed to those of former combatants of the Peoples Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN), Swapo’s military wing during the liberation war.

Contractors working on a development project in Eenhana at the former South African military base here, discovered the remains about two years ago.

It is believed the remains could be those of the combatants who perished during the conflict which erupted on the eve of the implementation of UN Resolution 435 on April 1, 1989.

The Government recently decided to provide the fallen heroes and heroines with a dignified burial, hence the specialty of this year’s Heroes’ Day.

Two preparatory committees, a national and a regional one, have been working together to ensure that all 13 regions are represented at the occasion.

The National Preparatory Committee in Windhoek, consisting of various line ministries and State House are responsible for inviting dignitaries from international non-governmental organizations such as UN agencies, and other stakeholders.
