Ongwediva

Governor of Hardap Region Esme Sophia Isaak was admitted to Ongwediva Medipark Hospital on Monday night following a serious car accident on the road between Ondangwa and Omuthiya

It is alleged that Isaak’s official BMW, with GRN registration number 724, collided with a Toyota pickup driven by an elderly man near Oshifukwa on Monday late Monday afternoon.

According to Deputy Police Commissioner Naomi Katjiua of the Oshikoto police, the governor’s vehicle slammed into the bakkie that was trying to cross the road.

“Its alleged that the driver of the Toyota pickup, registration number N62370W, failed to ensure that it was safe to cross the road and in the process was hit by the BMW, which was travelling from Ondangwa to Omuthiya,” said Katjiua.

Isaak sustained slight injuries to her right knee and was admitted. Her 35-year-old driver escaped the accident without injury.

The driver of the pickup, identified as 60-year-old Fillipus Kamati Namupala, is said to be in critical condition, while his passengers, who sustained head injuries are said to be in a stable condition.

Both Namupala and his passenger were rushed to Omuthiya Hospital, but were later transferred to Oshakati State Hospital due to the seriousness of their injuries.
