Restoring the cleanness and integrity of Tsumeb as the garden town has been the talk within the local authority of late, and the time has seemingly come to prove this.

Tsumeb Municipality is now planning to embark on a non-stop mass cleanup campaign of the town, and is calling on community members to volunteer for this programme to help restore was has been once the pride of the town.

According to Tsumeb Chief Executive Officer Alfeus Benjamin, who said they would like to make this programme a regular event and a platform to identify people that can be recruited whenever there is a need to clean or clear land for development purposes.

“We want to integrate the youth and community members with this programme, so that we can keep the town clean, as well as provide them with a platform where they can earn an income,” Benjamin explained.

He said in the initial stage people will not be paid, but will later on be recruited to different sectors, to deliver cleaning services, so this is a platform to pinpoint the hard workers and those that are determined and willing to work.

The initiative has already been rolled out by Tsumeb Mayor Veueza Kasiringua, who has instituted the use of skip drums in informal areas. To make sure the drums are well-maintained and that no rubbish is thrown outside the drum, she made provision to employ people to collect waste that spills over and to monitor those that litter.
