Sergio de Sousa has been appointed as the new Head of Digital Transformation at FNB Namibia. His key purpose will be to assist FNB and its businesses to move towards greater efficiency by using technology that will ultimately result in the Group delivering greater value to customers and stakeholders.

“The idea is that manual processes (both internal and external) should be reduced to an absolute minimum, which will further result in quicker turnaround times, reduction of various risks to the company and maintaining the Group’s status as one of the most innovative banks in the world,” he says. De Sousa holds a Bachelor of Business Science degree and Master of Commerce Degree from Rhodes University in South Africa and specialised in Information Systems and Strategic Management.

FNB Namibia have continued their migration to electronic channels over the past years. “During the last financial year, for example, 44 new ATMs were installed as well as 506 speed points, while only two branches with actual bricks and mortar were opened,” he advised.

The bank’s BRICKS TO CLICKS strategy which migrates customers to electronic channels has been extremely successful with the addition over the years of cellphone banking, internet banking, speed points, ATM’ eWallet and the FNB App.

“Electronic business transactions volumes were up by 17% in the last financial year versus only 2% for manual transactions, while the FNB app recorded more than 170 000 transactions and eWallet volumes were up 2.5 million. This is the right way to go and I am excited to be part of the electronic journey. Not only are we contributing towards saving the planet (less paper) but also enabling many more Namibians to make use of banking channels (e.g. eWallet,) while at the same time reducing costs and saving time. Digital financial services are the way to go and a win-win for all.”
