Family opposed to bail in murder case

Home National Family opposed to bail in murder case

Keetmanshoop

Family members of murder victim Job Daniels, who was shot dead on Sunday, are opposed to bail being granted to the suspect, whom they say has not shown any remorse.

Family members of late Daniels entered the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday carrying placards with the message: ‘No bail for manslaughter.’

After a brief court session they stood in front of court with placards raised, calling on the court not to grant bail to Ambrosius Matheus, the 46-year-old suspect who allegedly shot the deceased through the mouth on Sunday morning.

The devastated family members said bail should not be granted, as it involves a serious crime. To their surprise the suspect appeared to be happy and showed no sign of remorse during his first court appearance. Some said his callous attitude makes it more painful for the bereaved family. They further feel the killing was intentional, because no warning shot was fired and the suspect aimed for the head, clearly indicating he intended to kill Job Daniels.

“He could have shot him in the leg, but he just shot him in the head. So it was his intention to kill him,” said an inconsolable Monalizl Basson, sister to the deceased. She added that the family members would continue to come to court to demonstrate against bail for the murder suspect.

During the court session, the State opposed bail on the grounds that the investigation is still at an early stage and the charges are very serious. Job Daniels was the nephew to //Karas Regional Governor Lucia Basson.
Magistrate Hellena Nepembe led the proceedings, while Loide Nghixulifwa prosecuted and Louis La Grange represented the suspect.

The case was remanded to November 23 for a formal bail application to be brought before court. The suspect remains in custody.
