As part of its Christmas wish list initiative, Wernhil Shopping Centre, a property of Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group subsidiary Broll Namibia, shared donations with
one of its educational partners Inge’s Kindergarten at the beginning of October for the seventh year in a row.
Inge’s Kindergarten was established in 2008 to address the demands for early childhood development in the Mix settlement. Currently, the school serves 39 pupils, most of whom are between the ages of three and six, and a handful who are seven or eight.
Wernhil sponsored the kindergarten for a total of N$6 000, which included six 5 litres paint cans to decorate the outside of the classrooms, as well as the Wernhil team waterproofing, patching holes, and installing and replacing window glasses in the kindergarten’s two classrooms to make the spaces warmer in preparation for winter.
A vivid and colourful school sign made and placed by Image Signs was also included in the donation. The signage’s expenses, amounting to over N$300, were shared equally between Wernhil and Image Signs.
“We really appreciate O&L and Wernhil. They have been working with us for the past three years, and we sincerely value the impact they have had on the community as a whole. The small things they help with, like paint, children’s parties and
signage all add up to a big impact and inspire children and parents,” said head of Inge’s Kindergarten, Julia Bashir.
In addition, she expressed her excitement about the kindergarten’s future, saying that they aim to grow and add a kitchen and garden as well.
Johan van der Westhuizen, general manager for operations at Broll Namibia, likewise expressed his gratitude, stating that “Inge’s Kindergarten has demonstrated an incredible initiative, and this is just the beginning.”
“Where will we be if we do not take care of the young people? These kinds of initiatives need to be supported, and at Wernhil, education will always be a key area of concentration. The basis of education needs to be maintained, and we must begin here”, he added.
Victoria Moller, the group assistant manager of Wernhil, said this initiative is very close to their hearts.
“We have worked closely with Inge’s Kindergarten for the whole year, and seeing its impact, we have decided to include it for this year’s Christmas wish list initiative. We did quite a lot with the school, such as roof filling to protect from the rain, just to come up with a conducive learning environment.
