OTJIWARONGO – Otjiwarongo municipality last week appointed Mberipura Hifitikeko as CEO.

Since July 2023, the municipality has been without a substantive CEO after the departure of Moses Matyayi, who now heads the City of Windhoek as CEO.

The spokesperson of the municipality, Adelheid Shilongo, told Nampa on Thursday that Hifitikeko is an executive at TransNamib in Windhoek, and he was appointed last week after the line Ministry of Urban and Rural Development approved the council’s recommendation.

“For now, all the 111 permanent staff members of the municipality are aware of his appointment,” said Shilongo.

The spokesperson further stated that for one month, the municipality’s manager for local economic development, Petros Kuteeue, will act in the position of
CEO.

The strategic executive for community and economic services, Erickson Mwanyekange, who has been acting in the same position since 2023, resigned from the municipality on 26 April this year.

“Now, with the appointment of Hifitikeko, we are also sure that the vacant positions of our four strategic executives will be filled before the end of the year,” said Shilongo.

For now, the municipality operates without a strategic executive, all four of them tendered their resignations or went on early retirement, she added.

Chairperson of the Otjiwarongo municipality’s management committee, GodhardtHoko said the strategic executives in the positions of finance, human resources, technical and community and economic development services all left the municipality between March 2023 and April 2024.

“The municipality has a council resolution to have a substantive CEO recruited first – and once he is in office, he will assist the municipality in recruiting the other four strategic executives to their respective positions,” said Hoko.
