The police are yet to conclude investigations into the case of a woman, who was raped, murdered and her body dumped at a church last year.
Quitenline Bonnita Eixas’ lifeless body was discovered at the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Katutura by a church caretaker on 23 March last year.
Making their appearance in Katutura Magistrate’s Court yesterday, the accused, Raymond Matroos and Rajiv Jossep, were informed that police investigations into their case are yet to be finalised.
“At this stage, police investigations are not yet finalised. The State request for the matter to be postponed to 25 August for further investigations and legal aid,” said state prosecutor Victoria Thompson.
Thus, magistrate Sally Salionga postponed the matter to 25 August, remanding Matroos and Jossep in police custody.
The prosecution is charging Raymond and his co-accused with a charge of murder and rape, respectively, for the death of 29-year-old Eixas in May 2021.
At the time, the family spokesperson, Immanuel !Aochamub, explained that their daughter, who is a mother of four children, died as a result of blunt force trauma and injuries to the head.
He indicated that the perpetrators allegedly used bricks and blunt objects to break the back of her skull.
According to The Namibian reports, the caretaker, who opted to remain anonymous, said he made the discovery around 07h00 in the morning before the church service was supposed to start.
When he stepped outside, he discovered a woman’s body, wrapped in a red towel, soaked in blood.
He tried to see if the woman was still breathing but later realised she was dead.
He initially wanted to flee but decided to call the police. – mamakali@nepc.com.na
