Sven Thieme, the executive chairman of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group, was awarded the Forbes Best of Africa Outstanding Corporate Leadership Award at a recent ceremony held in Lisbon, Portugal. This recognition highlights Thieme’s exceptional leadership, commitment to excellence, and dedication to fostering sustainable growth and development in Namibia. 

The Forbes Best of Africa Awards celebrate outstanding leaders who have made significant contributions to the continent’s growth and development. The awards highlight individuals who demonstrate exemplary leadership, innovation, and a commitment to creating positive change in their respective industries and communities. 

Thieme accepted the award with heartfelt gratitude, recognising the collective efforts of his team and the enduring spirit of Namibia: “It is with immense gratitude and profound humility that I stand before you today to receive the Forbes Best of Africa Award. This recognition is not just a personal honour but a testament to the collective efforts of the incredible team at Ohlthaver & List Group and the vibrant, resilient spirit of my beloved Namibia.” 

In his acceptance speech, Thieme invited the audience on a journey to Namibia, a land of striking contrasts and unparalleled beauty: 

“Allow me to take you on a journey to a land where the desert meets the ocean, where endless horizons inspire endless possibilities, and where the warmth of our people is as captivating as our breathtaking landscapes. Namibia is a country of striking contrasts and unparalleled beauty. From the towering dunes of Sossusvlei to the rich cultural tapestry woven by our diverse communities, Namibia offers an experience that is both unique and profoundly enriching.” 

Receiving the award in Lisbon, a city renowned for its history of exploration, Thieme drew parallels to Namibia’s spirit of adventure and innovation: “Receiving this award in Lisbon reminds me of Namibia’s own spirit of adventure and discovery. It is a spirit that inspires me daily as I lead the Ohlthaver & List Group, a diverse conglomerate of companies that employs just under 6 000 dedicated individuals.”
