Cabinet has agreed to reduce the horse mackerel Total Allowable Catch (TAC) to 208 000 metric tonnes (MT) for the 2025 fishing season.
The total allowable catch was dropped from 270 000 MT.
A statement read by Minister of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) Emma Theofelus in Windhoek yesterday, said Cabinet agreed for the horse mackerel quota to be put at 208 000, which indicates a decline.
The statement also indicated that the TAC for deep-sea red crab has been set at 4 000 MT for the 2025 fishing season, resulting in the quota declining from the 2023 fishing season of 4 300 MT.
