Telecom honours founding president with candlelight vigil

Telecom Namibia on Wednesday joined the Namibian nation in mourning the passing of the Founding President and Father of the Namibian Nation Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma while celebrating his enduring legacy with a heartfelt candlelight ceremony.

Telecom Namibia’s management and staff gathered at the company’s headquarters in Windhoek for a ceremony to remember Nujoma not with sadness but with a spirit of gratitude and joy for his life and achievements.

The event was a tribute to his pivotal role in Namibia’s liberation and his visionary leadership that laid the foundation for the nation’s technological advancement.

As a visionary architect of Namibia’s development plan, Vision 2030, Nujoma recognised the crucial role of telecommunications in building a modern and prosperous economy.

His leadership ushered in an era of expanded access to information and communication technology facilities for all Namibians, particularly those in historically disadvantaged communities.

Stanley Shanapinda, CEO of Telecom Namibia, addressed the staff, praising Nujoma as a visionary and dedicated leader who inspired others with his passion and dedication. The CEO encouraged everyone to focus on the positive impact Nujoma had on the nation.

He emphasised that the nation should continue building upon his legacy.

Under Nujoma’s guidance, Telecom Namibia embarked on a transformative journey towards introducing modern information and communication technology services, fostering a telecommunications sector that empowers businesses, connects communities and drives socio-economic progress.

The ceremony resonated with heartfelt tributes to Nujoma, celebrating his enduring impact on Namibia.

Attendees highlighted his visionary leadership, which fostered national unity, economic advancement and transformative change.
