Man ‘killed’ with Tassenberg bottle

TSUMEB – A 31-year-old man succumbed to injuries he sustained after he was struck with a wine bottle during an argument at a bar at Onathinge village in the Oshikoto region on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 23h00.

 The victim was identified as Amon Kakwena.

It is alleged that a quarrel erupted between Kakwena and a 23-year-old man in the bar.

The suspect is said to be related to Kakwena’s girlfriend. 

The couple left the bar, but the suspect allegedly followed them and grabbed a bottle of Tassenberg, which he used to strike Kakwena.

“The deceased suffered a deep wound on the left side of his neck and left eye. He was rushed to the Onaneyna Health Centre, and he was transferred to the Onandjokwe State Hospital for further treatment. He died later in hospital,” Namibian Police Force’s regional crime investigations coordinator Titus Ekandjo said.

The victim’s body was taken to the Onandjokwe Hospital’s mortuary, where a postmortem will be carried out.

Meanwhile, a 56-year-old woman reportedly died after a pick-up drove over her while she was lying in the road at Onakalunga village in the Omuthiya Constituency on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 22h00.

 The victim has been identified as Christine Nangombe.

A 56-year-old driver of a white Isuzu pick-up was reportedly driving back home from the Onakalunga cuca shop when he ran over the woman.

The woman happens to be his neighbour. 

She died on the spot.

Prior to the incident, the driver and his wife had allegedly been drinking with Nangombe and others at the cuca shop.

Nangombe’s body was transported to the Omuthiya Police mortuary for an autopsy.

 The driver has been arrested.

 He was scheduled to appear before the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
