OMUTHIYA – A 20-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing another 20-year-old man to death at Okangororosa village in the Oshikoto region’s Omuthiya constituency yesterday.
The Namibian Police’s crime investigations coordinator for the Oshikoto region, Deputy Commissioner Titus Ekandjo, informed Nampa that the incident occurred around 03h00 and the deceased was identified as Haiyaka Tangeniomwene, who was a resident of Ehafo village in the Ohangwena region.
Ekandjo said the suspect is an Angolan national and is from Ohameke village in Ondjiva.
The police said the deceased and other young men were at the cuca shops when a commotion erupted, leading to the formation of two opposing groups.
“The young men formed two groups and started attacking each other,” he said.
Tangeniomwene allegedly hit the suspect on his eye and the suspect then drew an Okapi knife, which he used to stab Tangeniomwene in the chest twice.
“He died on the spot,” he said, adding that his body was transported to the Omuthiya police mortuary for a post-mortem to be conducted.
The suspect has been arrested, and is expected to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court today.
