The Otjinene Village Council is proud of their two beauty contestants who participated in the Miss Namibia pageant held in Ongwediva over the weekend.

The two contestants are Uatjiri Mbaisa and Hope Rukero from Erindi Tjirarua and Otjembonde villages, respectively.

Mbaisa received two awards at the event, where she was a public choice and first princess.

Rukero was one of the top ten finalists.

Lesley Kauandara, t h e chairperson of the Otjinene Village Council, shared with the Vibez on Wednesday that the participation of the two girls has filled the community with immense pride and joy.

“Their presence on such a prominent national platform not only showcased the talent and beauty within our village but also provided invaluable exposure and marketing for Otjinene,” he said.

The chairperson stated that the Village Council is optimistic that the increased participation of girls will enhance visibility and attract future investments, thereby fostering growth within the community.

Beyond the national spotlight, Kauandara said Mbaisa and Rukero’s journey has been a profound source of inspiration for countless young girls in Otjinene.

He added that their confidence, grace and determination have undoubtedly instilled a greater sense of pride and self-belief in their local youth.

“We believe their participation will encourage more girls to confidently engage in various activities, pursue their aspirations and participate in future events, including beauty pageants, with renewed vigour and enthusiasm. Their achievements serve as a powerful reminder that with dedication and courage, dreams can indeed become a reality, even from a small village like Otjinene,” the chairperson said.

Kauandara congratulated the winner of Miss Namibia 2025, Johanna Swartbooi.

He commended the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation for its outstanding work in organising such a prestigious and successful event.

Asked whether the Village Council will award the contestants for their achievements, the council’s CEO Inge Kaveterua said they will discuss and decide.

“Of course, it will be a good gesture as a council, but we have to sit and decide on that,” she stated.
