KEETMANSHOOP – The supplementary registration of voters for the upcoming Regional and Local Authorities elections is going well in //Kharas region despite several hiccups.
Jejamaije Mujoro, the //Kharas regional education officer for the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN), said they have registered over 1 400 eligible voters so far. “Nature elements like the windy winter and technical challenges with tablets, voter registration kits and electrical supply generators sometimes delay the process, but we have managed to solve them, so I can confirm that we are well on track,” explained Mujoro.
The electoral officer noted that the final statistics for the region will be made available to the public on Sunday.
However, “Statistics prevailed indicated Karasburg West constituency as having the highest number of registered voters, with Berseba as the lowest,” she said.
Regarding the low turnout of first-time voters, Mujoro explained that this could be because those who recently turned 18 moved to other districts, making up a smaller yet significant portion of those registering so far. She also suggested that a lack of voter empathy among young people might be another possible factor.
Mujoro urged all eligible citizens to turn out in large numbers and exercise their democratic right by registering to vote. This will enable them to participate in decision-making processes and select their preferred political leaders during the Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections scheduled for 26 November 2025.
