Namibian cueist Jermain ‘Jaanie’ Andrews, who is currently in Australia competing at the 2025 WPA Heyball Champions of Champions, said he wants to prove that pool and snooker are much more than just bar games.
In an interview with this publication, Andrews (22) said the sport has traditionally not been regarded as a serious discipline, especially in Namibia.
However, he believes that competing against some of the world’s best players offers him the perfect chance to challenge that perception.
“Traditionally, snooker is not really considered a serious sporting discipline. But with this opportunity to contest against some of the world’s biggest players, I believe people will start to see it differently,” he said.
Andrews stressed that pool is more than just recreation but a mental sport that demands strategy, discipline and resilience.
“I want to highlight that pool is a serious sport – not just a game for bars. Pool is a mental sport that requires intense focus and strategy, helping to improve mental capability and mental health. It can reduce stress and build resilience,” he said.
He emphasised the positive impact the game can have on an individual’s well-being.
“My journey shows that pool is a sport that promotes mental well-being and deserves recognition,” he said.
