KATIMA MULILO – The Namibian Police in the Zambezi region are investigating a murder case following the discovery of a man’s body in bushes behind Square Village in the Sachona area of the Kongola constituency on Monday.
According to an incident report, the body was identified as that of 24-year-old Nyambe Muyunda, a Zambian national.
It was discovered by villagers who were ploughing their crop fields when they noticed a trail of blood leading them to the deceased’s body, after which they alerted the police.
NamPol stated that upon arrival at the scene, the deceased was found lying on his back with a deep cut to his throat. He was wearing a red Arsenal T-shirt, blue trousers, and Adidas sandals, which were found scattered around the scene.
The body was transported to the Katima Mulilo State Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is pending.
According to the police, community members at the scene identified the deceased through the clothes he was last seen wearing at Sachona’s Biza Biza Bar, where he had been in the company of a local man.
Information obtained by NamPol indicates that the last person seen in the company of the deceased was questioned and revealed that at around 20h00, he was stopped by the deceased, who was in the company of another unknown man who was intoxicated.
The deceased reportedly asked for accommodation for his friend to sober up.
“Then at around 22h00, the deceased came to wake up his drunk friend and the two left to go to their cattle post,” states the NamPol report.
A 44-year-old suspect, with blood stains found on his clothes, was arrested and is expected to make his first court appearance in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court this week. He faces charges of murder and defeating the course of justice.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed. Police investigations into the matter continue.
