I want to prioritise water – Brandt

Swapo Party’s National Council member, Inecia Brandt, said her number one priority for her constituency is installing potable water for the community.

Brandt is the councillor for the Daures constituency, in the Erongo region after successfully winning the regional elections last year. In a brief interview with this publication, Brandt said she has been part of the constituency for 31 years and what she hopes to change is the water crisis in her areas.

“I have been part of this constituency for over 30 years and one huge problem that I have witnessed while growing up is the water crisis. We have fewer potable water pumps to provide clean water, which is a huge problem. With me taking over the office, that’s what I am trying to fast-track,” she said.

Although water is quite a huge problem in her constituency, she also shared that, with hundreds of students and young people roaming the streets daily, she hopes to channel her energy into tackling youth unemployment.

“We can’t turn a blind eye on youth unemployment, our young ones have been struggling to get jobs. That part is what I will also prioritise. I have already started talking to mining companies in and around my constituency to look into employing or taking the youth first in line. We are so rich in the region and I just hope to engage a lot of stakeholders to see how we could work together and erase the problem,” she added.

Reflecting on her win, she said she is happy to be leading her childhood constituency. “It’s a huge win for me.

I am excited about what is about to come this year, and I am hoping to work with everyone to better our community.

I am thankful to those who voted, but also those who didn’t vote for me.

We have to work together for the good of the community,” she added.
