Hollard tackles rising medical costs

As private healthcare costs continue to rise at a rate that outpaces inflation and salary growth, Hollard Namibia has launched Hollard Gap Cover – an increasingly essential financial safeguard.

Medical aid often covers the basics, but it does not always cover the full cost of healthcare services.

When this happens, members may face shortfalls between what their medical aid pays and what healthcare providers charge, leaving families to cover the difference out of pocket.

As healthcare costs continue to rise and medical aid funds seek to balance affordability and sustainability of benefits, these shortfalls can become increasingly common.

Hollard Gap Cover is designed to help protect members of registered private open Namibian medical aid funds from unexpected medical shortfalls.

“Hollard Namibia is a purpose-driven insurer that has served this country for over two decades. This year, we are taking our customer-centric problem-solving approach a notch higher,” said André Vermeulen, Managing Director of Hollard Life Namibia.

“We recognise the stress that comes with medical aid shortfalls. Gap Cover does not replace medical aid membership but complements it by extending limits on certain medical expenses. It helps ensure families and employees are not left financially vulnerable during a medical emergency.”

Hollard Gap Cover is available in two options, namely Core and Plus, allowing members to choose a level of protection that best suits their needs and budget.

The Core option focuses on essential protection by helping cover tariff shortfalls for in-hospital specialist charges.

The Plus option provides broader protection by extending cover beyond in-hospital specialist shortfalls to include certain out-of-hospital shortfalls, medical co-payments and oncology-related benefits, helping members manage a wider range of potential medical expense gaps.

As the first Gap Cover designed for all Namibians, this new offering from Namibia’s favourite insurer is built on a simple promise: a small contribution for a big benefit – delivered through an accessible and convenient digital experience that supports customers from quote and application through to claims.

“Gap insurance is essential in Namibia. It protects families from severe unexpected out-of-pocket medical costs and provides meaningful peace of mind,” Vermeulen concluded.
