The First National Bank Namibia has stated that its Automated Deposit Terminals (ADTs) across the country can now accept the newly upgraded Namibia Dollar banknotes. The upgrade follows the national rollout of the next generation of banknotes by the Bank of Namibia.
Customers can now deposit the enhanced N$200, N$100, N$50, N$20 and N$10 banknotes at the bank’s deposit-enabled ATMs nationwide.
However, the commemorative N$30 and N$60 notes remain legal tender but are not yet included in the ATM upgrade. Customers who want to deposit these commemorative notes will need to visit FNB branches.
The upgrade comes after many customers waited for ATMs to start accepting the new banknotes following their introduction earlier this year. The new currency series was launched under the theme ‘Our Currency, Our Heritage, Our Pride – Meet the Next Generation of the Namibia Dollar.’
The central bank introduced the upgraded notes to improve the security, durability and design of Namibia’s currency.
According to Namibia Katuuo, National Cash and SSD manager at FNB Namibia, the upgrade required several technical adjustments to the bank’s ATM systems.
“As one of Namibia’s largest ATM networks, enabling our systems to recognise newly issued banknotes requires coordinated upgrades across multiple technologies and platforms. Our focus throughout this process has been to ensure customers across the country continue to enjoy a seamless and reliable deposit experience at our deposit-enabled ATMs,” Katuuo said.
He added that the bank continues to invest in technology while working closely with the Bank of Namibia to ensure the smooth introduction of the new banknotes.
“At FNB Namibia, we remain focused on investing in technology and infrastructure that improve how our customers bank with us. At the same time, we work closely with the Bank of Namibia to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements,” he said.
With the upgrade now completed, customers can deposit both the newly issued banknotes and the older notes already in circulation at FNB deposit-enabled ATMs across the country.
