Ahead of Independence Day tomorrow, the Khomas region will host cultural activities, music festivals and an innovation talent show in Windhoek CBD today, Governor Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma announced.
The event is in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, the Office of the Khomas Governor, the Khomas Regional Council, the City of Windhoek and the Namibia Press Agency.
The event themed ‘#Namfest@36’ is expected to start at 09h00 with the Uhuru march, where 1 000 attendants, mostly school learners, will parade from across Windhoek to Zoo Park.
The march will symbolise unity, patriotism and national pride ahead of the official Independence celebrations tomorrow. “These events go beyond commemorating our independence. They are about strengthening unity and encouraging meaningful participation from all sectors of society,” Nujoma said.
Meanwhile, deputy education minister Dino Ballotti said the platform serves to empower young people through creative expression and engagement.
“While reminding ourselves where we are coming from, the planned activities create an opportunity for young people to showcase their talents while contributing to nation building,” Balloti said.
After the march, the innovation talent show will take place at Zoo Park, headlined by Top Cheri from 11h00 until 15h00.
Various artists will take to the stage at the City of Windhoek parking lot at the sunset hour.
Fallen artists such as Jackson Kaujeua, Ras Sheehama, Pedrito and Willie Mbuende will be dedicated an hour of tribute performances.
The public can look forward to performances from King Tee Dee, Sunny Boy, PDK, Exit, Stakes Boy, Shax Champion and many more.
The entrance is free, and the public can also expect other activities such as poetry, paintings, plays and inventions that will be exhibited at the event.
The official 36th independence celebrations will be held at Sam Nujoma Stadium tomorrow.
Gates will open as early as 06h00.
