Namibia will participate in the upcoming World Dance Championship, scheduled for July, in Bangkok, Thailand.
A group of local dancers is preparing to compete on this highly competitive international platform.
Leah Gaeses, director of Global Dance Supreme Namibia, said the country will be represented by a team in the crew divisions.
“Global Dance Supreme Namibia is proud to represent the country on one of the world’s most competitive dance stages,” she said.
“The World Dance Championship brings together some of the best dancers and crews from across the globe, creating an extraordinary platform for talent, creativity and cultural exchange”.
She added that Namibia’s participation marks a significant milestone for the development of dance in the country.
“It is not only about competing, but also about showcasing Namibian talent and demonstrating that our dancers can stand confidently on the global stage,” Gaeses noted. The championship was originally planned for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but has now been moved to Bangkok, Thailand.
It will be held over three days – 15 to 17 July. Organisers said that logistical and operational reasons prompted the change.
Gaeses said such adjustments are common for large-scale international events, but they demand quick coordination among participating countries.
“Teams must revise travel arrangements, accommodation plans and administrative logistics,” she said.
“Despite the relocation, the championship remains a prestigious global event that continues to attract dancers from across the world,” she noted.
In Namibia, the change has practical impacts, especially on planning and expenses.
The delegation needed to re-evaluate travel routes, visa procedures and accommodation plans within a tight timeframe.
“Travel routes, visa processes, accommodation arrangements and budgeting had to be reassessed in a very short period of time,” Gaeses said.
She noted that many dancers are financing their own participation, paying for expenses such as flights, accommodation and registration fees.
“Despite these challenges, the Namibian dancers remain determined and focused. The change has required resilience and adaptability, but it has not diminished the team’s commitment to proudly represent Namibia,” she said.
Looking ahead, Gaeses highlighted that winning at the championship will be judged only by podium placements.
“Our goal is to showcase the strength, creativity and passion of Namibian dancers at an international level. Success means delivering powerful performances, gaining valuable international experience and representing Namibia with pride and professionalism,” she remarked.
She further highlighted the broader importance of international competitions for the growth of dance sport in Namibia.
“International competitions expose our dancers to global standards, new styles and international networks within the dance industry. These experiences play a crucial role in raising the level of dance locally, inspiring young dancers and opening doors for future opportunities,” she said.
The Namibian team is expected to join competitors from around the world, using the platform not only to compete but also to promote the country’s creative talent on an international stage.
