Piet Ritief Gamaseb (48), who is accused of killing his domestic partner by allegedly striking her with an iron bar to the head and dumping her body at her mother’s house, is expected to appear in May for the commencement of his trial.
Windhoek High Court Deputy Judge President Shafimana Ueitele yesterday allocated trial dates to the accused.
The matter is expected from 26 to 29 May 2026 and again on 6 to 10 July and 17 to 21 August 2026.
Gamaseb faces two counts, including murder and defeating or obstructing the course of justice.
It is alleged that the accused murdered his common-law wife, Davie Bokkie Hannes, who is alleged to have been residing with him and in an actual or perceived intimate romantic relationship with him, in the Soweto location of Outjo, on 12 March 2022.
On the day of the incident, it is said the two arrived back home and the deceased was under the influence of alcohol.
It is alleged the accused hit the deceased with an iron bar and other blunt objects on her head and body and kicked her.
The court heard the assault was a result of an argument that erupted between the two, after the deceased allegedly continued snoring even after the accused told her to stop.
The state further alleges the accused collected a wheelbarrow and transported the body and dumped it at her mother’s house in the 7De Laan location in Outjo.
The State also alleges Gamaseb removed or washed off the deceased’s blood from his residence and cleaned the yard and disposed of a red cloth.
Subsequently, the accused allegedly made a report to the police and other people that the deceased left his residence prior to her death.
He allegedly claimed that the deceased was stoned to death by Oshiwambo-speaking men and that she was involved in bar fights. –mukubeiuze@gmail.com
