Top 8 Cup kicks off this weekend

The Standard Bank Top 8 Cup gets underway this Saturday at the Vineta Stadium in Swakopmund, bringing together the top eight teams from the recently concluded Namibia Premier Football League 2025/2026 season to compete for top honours.

A total of N$600 000 awaits the winners, while the runners-up will pocket N$300 000, and the losing semi-finalists will get N$100 000.

The teams competing in this year’s edition are African Stars FC, Eeshoke Chula Chula FC, Mighty Gunners FC, FC Ongos, KK Palace FC, Blue Waters FC, Unam FC and Eleven Arrows.

Defending champions African Stars will open their campaign against Eleven Arrows in the first quarterfinal on 2 May.

Speaking after the fixtures were drawn, African Stars captain Ronald Ketjijere said the draw reflects the league’s competitiveness, noting that all participating teams performed well in the just concluded season.

He added that Eleven Arrows have proven to be a difficult opponent, with each side having secured a win against the other during the league.

“There is no result that is guaranteed in football; we have to go out there, work for the result we want and let the best team win,” he said.

Meanwhile, Eeshoke Chula Chula FC coach John Sikerete said his team has maintained momentum following the league season and is in good condition, with only one injury.

He acknowledged that Mighty Gunners are a strong and experienced side but remains confident in his team’s approach.

“They are not an easy opponent, but it’s a cup game, and it can go either way. We just need to focus on the basic aspects of football,” Sikerete said.

The semi-finals are scheduled for 9 May at Outjo Sport Stadium, while the final will be played on 23 May at Independence Stadium in Windhoek.
