WINDHOEK – Former Brave Warriors goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo is set to take over as head coach of Namibia’s undisputed champions Black Africa, replacing veteran mentor Brian Isaacs who was recently sacked following a string of poor results, according to a well-placed source.
The source further reliably informed New Era Sports yesterday that a decision has also been taken to recall sacked backroom staff, Otto Landsberg and Eric Quest, who were both Isaacs’ assistants, to assist Kanalelo.
Kanalelo, whose contract at Black Africa is still unconfirmed, was recently axed by struggling South African premiership outfit Bloemfontein Celtic as goalkeeper coach along with head coach Ernest Middendorp and fellow assistant Fadlu Davids.
The 43-year-old former Blue Waters and Mamelodi Sundowns (SA) shot-stopper is no stranger to the local coaching scene, as he was preciously involved with Tura Magic and Tigers before heading back to South African to take over as goalkeeper coach at Maritzburg United in July 2011.
Nicknamed ‘The Magnet’ in his heyday with the Brave Warriors, he became head coach of Tura Magic in 2010 when the club was still playing in the Southern Stream First Division and moved on that same year to become head coach of Tigers.
Black Africa chairperson, Kandas Paulino, could neither confirm nor deny Kanalelo’s appointment, while Kanalelo’s mobile phone went unanswered at the time of going to press.
