WINDHOEK – Following several failed attempts to lend a lucrative deal beyond the borders of Namibia, Black Africa’s talismanic midfielder Awilo Stephanus could  find solace in the Thai Professional Football League, if recent rumours are anything to go by.

Sources close to the player revealed to New Era Sport that Stephanus is currently in Thailand on trial with Bangkok Glass Football Club (FC) and is said to have so far impressed the team’s staff. But should the club show any interest in signing the Namibian youngster, the move can only come to fruition early next year as the transfer widow is currently closed until January 2015.

The Thai Premiership currently houses two Namibian internationals in the shape of Lazarus Kaimbi (Bangkok Glass FC) and striker Tangeni Shipahu (Osotspa Saraburi FC). Should Stephanus land a contract with Bangkok Glass, he will become the third Namibian in recent years to ply his trade in the Asian league.

Just a few weeks ago, Stephanus was reported to have been training with South African side Maritzburg United with a view to landing a long overdue professional contract but the move however fell through after failing to impress United coach Steve Khompela. The player is expected back home before Friday.
