KATIMA MULILO – Simataa and Sangwali senior secondary schools were the champions of the 2014 Stanley Simataa annual school ball games tournament – involving football and netball – in Katima Mulilo last weekend.

The two schools walked away with N$2 000 each and a floating trophy after conclusion of the two-day tourney that attracted 10 senior secondary schools from the Zambezi Region.

The tournament is the brainchild of Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Stanley Simataa.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on Sunday, the articulate Simataa encouraged learners to take education seriously and urged the winning schools to use the prize money wisely.

“As learners, you should be able to cooperate with your teachers and I would also like to encourage the winning teams to use the money and purchase sports attire.”

Sikosinyana and Kizito senior secondary schools finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the netball section and received consolation prizes of N$1 500 and N$1 000 – in that order – while Mayuni Senior Secondary School ended in 2nd place that came along with a consolation prize of N$1 500.

Both Sangwali and Sesheke Senior secondary schools had to be satisfied with N$500 each after finishing in joint 3rd place.

Simataa sponsored the tourney to the tune of N$10 000.
