By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK SIMON Pandjelenga is the lucky winner of a Hyundai Tucson from a Restoration Ministries International competition, held this year. The competition was aimed at raising funds for a project of the church, Restoration Community Development Organisation (RECODEC), which will enable the church to play a pivotal role in alleviating problems that the community is facing. The draw took pace on Saturday, December 17. Pandjelenga won the first and main prize worth N$200 000. The money raised will be used in renovating the Hendeva Cinema Hall, which RECODEC successfully tendered for purchase from the Windhoek Municipality. The facility, apart from the obvious spiritual assembling, will also serve as a multi-purpose centre and focal point for community restorative activities such as counselling for battered women and children, HIV/AIDS and family counselling, Christian education for pre-school children, coupled with after school care facilities and adult literacy education. Also amongst other activities that the project plans to undertake are the development of life skills and competencies for the unemployed youth and a soup kitchen for the hungry and vulnerable members of society. The project arises from the realisation that other stakeholders need to partner the government in search of solutions to the problems that face the country. “The purpose of RECODEC is to enable members of the Restoration Ministries International to play a pivotal role within their community (in this instance the Katutura community, according to the old adage which has it that charity should start at home) by showing the love of the Lord Jesus Christ on a daily level in practical ways to improve the social and economic conditions of vulnerable community members,” said a statement from the Chairperson of RECODEC Fund raising committee, Josef Sasamba.
