By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK The six Zimbabwean men incarcerated for the armed robbery of the Standard Bank branch at Gobabis appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at the town yesterday. The case against them was postponed to July 18 for further investigation. They were not granted bail, and will remain at the town’s holding cell until their next court appearance. “Bail is out of the question at this stage and not advisable,” said Detective Inspector Rudolph Isaak, Omaheke’s regional crime investigation coordinator. The men are Oscar Mlule, Mthulisi Sibanda, Matole Nasiosus, Plan Ndebele, Moyo Sikhumbuzo, and another suspect whose name could still not be ascertained. The men were apprehended after a 25-hour long search for them into the Botswana border, where they took refuge. The Botswana authorities handed over the suspects to the Namibian police to stand trial for the robbery in Gobabis. It is further suspected that the men were also responsible for robberies in Windhoek and Okahandja over the last two months. This is still the subject of the investigations. The total amount of money stolen from the Standard Bank’s branches is just over N$700 000. Standard Bank Managing Director, Mpumzi Pupuma, earlier indicated that the spate of robberies has made it necessary for the bank to review its security procedures and measures.
