WINDHOEK-It’s that time of the year again when the school starts and learners are back to school, coping with the new environments and new faces. Youth Corner spoke to Grade 10 learners at the A.Shipena Secondary School for their views on the new school term, how they feel being back at school and the challenges they foresee this year.
Moses Moses (17): “The new school term is just awesome, it’s a bit challenging. Seeing my teachers and fellow learners being back to school is my greatest joy. I feel very good being back to school because I have passed my Grade 9 with good marks, that’s why I enjoy being at school. This year, I want to change my school A.Shipena to be the best school in the country.”
Selestina Shiyukifeni (16): “The school term will be hard for those who do not have self discipline. I am happy to be back at school because I am reconciling with my classmate. It was such a long holiday and the school work has just begun on a high note. This year, I want our school to have better results than previous years.”
Helena Shimwitikileni (16): “The new school term is really good. I feel so proud of myself when I am back to school. My first day at school this year was really great and happy to see new faces and my old friends, this year I want to be on top of the game and beating my fellow learners with good results.”
Annelka Shipanga (16): “School terms are quite difficult but if you study very hard and pull up your socks, you will see how easy they are. My first day at school was very bad for me since I was a newcomer at a secondary school and I was afraid to be with senior learners. This year I am looking forward to the new school term because I want to change my behaviour to follow the school terms in a proper way. I am looking forward to the next grade with good results.”
Haundjondo Fillepus (16): “I can say the new school term is not easy or difficult. I want to be a good learner to both teachers and my fellow learners. I feel good to be back at school. My first day at school was successful and I’m grateful. I am very happy to be in Grade 10 for the first time in my life. I am looking forward to the new school terms so that I can achieve my dreams and good result in Grade 10.”
Saima Namene (18): “This is a very good idea to be back at school. All I can say, we must obey the rules. My first day at school was all good but a bit boring and I was very shy to everyone. I am looking forward to this year. I want to bring more awards to make our school proud by winning different competitions.”
Ester Uupindi (15) “New school terms are quite difficult to take or cope with, but if we stick to them, we will obtain good and shining marks at the end of the year. On my first day at school I was feeling happy to come back and continues with my education and to obey the school rules as usual. Education is the key to success. We must all focus and play around all challenges smartly.”

Johhanes Shatiwa (18): “This new school term is very, very important to me and I am sure I will enjoy it too much since I will gain a lot by following and obeying the rules. I felt really good I am back at school, especially on my first day. I want to pass my Grade 10 with impressive results.”
Ndapo Eliakim (16): “It’s the time to study hard and preparing for the final results. I feel good being back to school since now I am in grade 10. I want to pass my coming grades with distinctions and make my parents proud.”
Ndapona Victoria (17): “I say it’s great being back at school and in such a grade that you were never before and only heard it from people saying it’s the toughest. I feel good about myself facing such challenges. My first day at school went according to plan. I am looking forward to the greatest success of my life.”
