New administration block at Lusese

Home Development New administration block at Lusese

LUSESE – Lusese Combined School which is situated about 55 kilometres east of Katima Mulilo in the Kabbe constituency has become the latest beneficiary of a new administration block that cost government over N$470 000. The administration block that includes offices for staff, a reception area and toilets was inaugurated by Zambezi regional governor, Lawrence Sampofu recently and will alleviate the long standing problem of lack of office space at the school. The administration block will accommodate 15 teachers, including the principal.

Zambezi regional education director Austin Samupwa revealed that government has approved the construction of a hostel for Lusese Combined School. “You requested a hostel in 2008. Let me announce that the hostel was approved in the 2010/2011 financial year. Ten hostels were approved for the Zambezi region and therefore all cannot be built in one year, hence the delay but as time goes, a hostel will be built here,” Samupwa announced to loud applause and ululation. Samupwa further said after the hostels are built an assessment will be conducted to determine if such schools can be upgraded to senior secondary status.

Currently Lusese is a combined school with Grade 10 as the highest grade. Some learners whose villages are situated far away from the school have since resorted to erecting makeshift accomodation close to the school to obviate the need for travelling long distances to and from school. The absence of a fence at the school was also identified as one of the challenges in terms of securing the premises of the school. “Lusese Combined School is one of the oldest schools in Zambezi, the school also accommodates flood victims during flooding and that is why we appeal to the education directorate to please help fence the school for protection. As you can see animals are just roaming around without control,” said Induna Charles Musohwa.
