Hit and run in Katima 

The Namibian Police in Zambezi have appealed to members of the public to assist in identifying a man who was reportedly run over by a truck on Monday.
The accident occurred around 22h57 near Kongola in the Mulanga area, along the Trans-Zambezi highway. According to Sergeant Alex Mawaya of the NamPol traffic unit, preliminary investigations indicate that the man was walking alongside the road when he noticed an oncoming truck.
In an attempt to avoid the vehicle, the man moved into the opposite lane. However, the driver of the Freightliner truck – who was reportedly swerving to avoid potholes – struck the pedestrian.

Head on collision near Omuthiya 

A 43-year-old Namibian male succumbed to his injuries at the Onandjokwe State Hospital after he was involved in a head-on collision, which occurred on Saturday at Omalindi village, some six kilometres from Omuthiya Town, on the B1 Road.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old Namibian male pedestrian sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to the Onandjokwe State Hospital on Friday, after he was reportedly struck by a white Mazda pick-up.
It is alleged that the 68-year-old male driver failed to stop at a T-junction in the Onayena area at Onathinge and struck the pedestrian who was standing next to the road. The vehicle continued and further crashed into a boundary wall of a bar near the road.
The incident happened at around 08h00, and the driver sustained no injuries.
In an unrelated incident, unknown suspects used an unknown object to cut open the roof of a bar in the Onethindi location at 05H30 on Saturday, where they reportedly stole N$14 745 in cash.
“The suspects allegedly went on to break the door to the entrance of the bar and took one jackpot machine valued at N$111 415, using a getaway vehicle,” it read.
No recovery or arrests have been made yet, and the suspects remain unknown at this stage.
Investigations into all matters continue.

Murder in Okahandja 

A 21-year-old man from Okahandja’s Osona village residential area succumbed to multiple stab wounds inflicted on him by alleged unknown suspects on Monday afternoon.
Namibian Police  head of community affairs in Otjozondjupa, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha in a statement yesterday said the deceased was identified by his close relative on Monday as Benjamin Rukero.
According to Mbeha, Rukero was reportedly found lying on a portion of the A1 dual-carriage road behind the bridge with multiple stab wounds on his chest and left shoulder.
“Multiple stab wounds were visible on him, and he was transported to the Okahandja State Hospital with an ambulance in a critical condition and later succumbed to the injuries,” said Mbeha.
Mbeha said no suspect has been arrested so far and called on members of the public with information regarding the incident to report to any nearest police station.
Police investigations continue.
