Keeping kids off the streets through volleyball
2015-02-16Staff Report 2 By John Muyamba RUNDU – The Namibia Volleyball Federation donated various sports items to kids of the African Dream Volleyball Project in Rundu. The donated items were 50 kids volleyballs, 21 African Dream T-shirts, 10 Cool Volleyball T-shirts, 40 cones, one whistle, five volleyball nets, one mini volleyball net, one stopwatch, a pump and three Mikasa indoor balls, two Mikasa beach balls and one coach bag. All the items were donated last week Monday at the official opening of the Kavango Volleyball Association Programme which coincides with the African Dream Project development. The project was initiated by the Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) sponsored by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), and seeks to address the issue of lack of volleyball development on the continent. NVF has identified four regional associations to host the programme, namely Zambezi, Kavango, Far Northern and Central. Some of the aims are to guide young people in their first experience in volleyball through becoming regular participants, and to give opportunities to young people to experience volleyball and develop their skills in a safe, fun environment. The project also seeks to scientifically identify potential athletes from the ages 8-14 years and they will be put through a four-year programme to improve their volleyball ability technically and tactically. 2015-02-16Staff Report 2
