Sound for Sight Music Festival rocks Windhoek

Donna Collins

Windhoek get ready to rock, as an incredible collaboration of some of the best musicians are live today and tomorrow at the fourth annual ‘Sound for Sight’ Music Festival.

The Sound for Sight music festival is a rock music show to raise funds for the visually impaired youth of Namibia, and is being held at the SKW grounds, with a large stage and first class sound. A total of 20 bands are performing live today and tomorrow, with some of Namibia’s hottest bands and solo artists joined by four of South Africa’s top acts. This year the festival offers, a bigger stage, bigger sound and bigger bands. Organiser, promoter and musician, Alfie Visser, who lost his sight in a motor bike accident many years ago, says: “Sound for Sight Music Festival is offering great live music, great vibes and all for a great cause.” Visser has been working tirelessly for the past seven months to put together the first two-day Sound For Sight Festival, with previous years just being held on one day only, and will also be joining his band, Desdamona, on stage as their percussionist. The show starts this afternoon with gates opening at 12h00 for bar lunches, and music starting at 16h45. Tomorrow the gates open at 12h00 with the first act kicking off at 13h45. Divine Audio Works, who were responsible for the production at Unam Cultural Festival, will be responsible for the incredible sound system and massive stage set up.  The festival welcomes four South Africa’s hottest bands; Just Ginger, Saving Silence, Crimson House and Akkedis who have offered to perform for this fund raising show, and are no strangers to their Namibian fans. The exciting local line-up of artists includes Dave Webster Band, Wakambi, Savannah, Jan Taks, 2Durty7, Accidental Hero, As Night Fades, Famaz Attak, Sean Naude, Honey & Gravel, RAT, Desdamona, Steam, Wolf Hunt, Blikweg, and Tripping on Cables.
Delicious food and drinks are available, with a fun for the whole family atmosphere. For more information see the Sound for Sight Facebook page.
