Fifa appoints Shimooshili, Tirtirau to key committees

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has announced that its president Robert Shimooshili has been appointed as a member of the FIFA Football Social Responsibility Committee.

This marks a major milestone for Namibian football leadership on the global stage.

In a parallel achievement, Andrei Tirtirau, chairperson of Futsal Namibia, has also been appointed to the Fifa Futsal Committee.

These dual appointments place Namibia firmly on Fifa’s radar as a growing footballing nation, with leaders actively contributing to the sport’s development beyond its borders.

A statement released by the NFA states that Shimooshili’s appointment reflects his “unwavering commitment to leveraging the power of football for positive societal change”.

As head of the country’s football governing body, he has been instrumental in fostering inclusivity and community development through sport, priorities that align with Fifa’s broader vision of using football as a force for social good.

Tirtirau’s inclusion on the Fifa Futsal Committee, meanwhile, recognises his pivotal role in the rapid growth of the sport in Namibia.

“His dedication and hard work have been instrumental in the growth and development of futsal throughout Namibia,” the statement added.

Under his leadership, Futsal Namibia has gained momentum, with increasing participation across regions and a growing presence in the national sports calendar.

The NFA described the two appointments as “significant international recognitions” that underscore the talent, passion and strategic vision within Namibia’s football leadership.

It noted that the achievements are not only a personal victory for Shimooshili and Tirtirau, but also a reflection of Namibia’s progress and influence in the global football community.

The NFA further emphasised that the two officials’ participation at the global level will enhance Namibia’s representation and influence in international football decision-making.

“Their presence on these global platforms will undoubtedly amplify Namibia’s voice and contribute to the continued growth and development of football both nationally and internationally,” the statement concluded.
