The men’s Futsal league will take a short break to make way for the Namibia-hosted African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games, which have officially kicked off.
The league, which usually hosts its matches at the Windhoek Showgrounds, will temporarily pause as the venue prepares to host a string of sporting events during the eight-day regional showpiece, including netball, karate, judo, and other disciplines, making it unavailable for Futsal fixtures.
Greyeno Rusberg, media manager at Futsal Namibia, confirmed the development yesterday, noting that league matches are likely to resume next month. “Yes, there will be no futsal matches for the month of July 2025 due to the ongoing AUSC Region 5 Games. The futsal league will resume in August 2025,” he said.
Rusberg further revealed plans for a small preparatory tournament before the league resumes. “We’re looking at hosting the Maxi FC Futsal Cup during the last weekend of July for first division clubs and new Futsal teams interested in joining the local Futsal scene,” he added.
Heading into the month-long break, Chile FC remains firmly at the summit of the log with 56 points from 20 matches, followed by Quality on 50 points from 19 games. In third place is Windhoek Futsal, which has amassed 45 points in 20 outings this season.
Chile head coach Mefflint de Waal expressed his satisfaction with the team’s position heading into the break, crediting their consistency and spirit. “It’s a good thing that we’re on top, six points clear of second place. It’s the morale boost we needed going into the break. This gives us time to reflect, adjust where necessary, and come back stronger,” he said.
Meanwhile, at the bottom of the standings, JAC FC sit in 14th place with 13 points from 20 matches, while 7 Kings occupy 15th position with 12 points. Anchoring the table is Flying V, who are yet to record a win this season and have managed just one point from 18 matches.
