By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK The application of technology to education has become common in most schools globally and Namibia is no exception. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Vitalis Ankama, announced that candidates who wrote end-of-year exams would for the first time have a chance to access their results through a mobile telephone by using a short message service (SMS). One SMS will cost N$4.00 excluding VAT. According to Ankama, all that a candidate has to do to use this service is send the level (JSC, IGCSE or HIGCSE) followed by the surname and first name. Though the exact date of releasing the results could not be disclosed, announcements are likely to be made from December18 – 22 for JSC and HIGCSE results. IGCSE results are likely to be out between January 22-26 2007. “The SMS service will become active at 08:00 on the day of the official release of the results,” he said. Besides the SMS service, results will also be available on the website of the Directorate National Examinations and Assessment. Candidates can also visit their schools/centres where they wrote their examinations as always. There were 31 556 fulltime and part-time Grade 12 learners who sat for the end-of-year examinations this year.
