WINDHOEK – Hildegard Elizabeth List, wife of the business mogul and former chairman of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group of Companies, the late Werner List, has died.
She was 94 years when she died on January 10 in Swakopmund. Her husband predeceased her in 2002. The Wernhill Park Shopping Mall in Windhoek is named after the couple, a combination of the name Werner and Hildegard, and now remains as the visible legacy of the power couple that helped to shape the O&L Group into an empire that consists of Windhoek’s iconic shopping centre, the country’s world leading brewery Namibia Brewery Limited, diary farm and plant, and other business interests in property development, hotel and leisure, engineering as well as information technology industries.
The late List served as a non-executive director of O&L Group at the time of her death, a position she assumed after the death of her husband.
“We are shocked and greatly saddened by the passing of Mrs List. She was a visionary leader, a devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren, and a remarkable woman,” said the Executive Chairman of the O&L Group, Sven Thieme. O&L says the late List “leaves behind a legacy of passion, hard work and energy that were the source of countless innovations that enriched and improved many lives.”
“The O&L Group’s directors and employees, as well as many of the people she worked with and mentored over the years, mourn her loss.
“We extend our sympathies to List’s family, particularly her children and grandchildren, who meant the world to her,” said Thieme.
