WINDHOEK – The much anticipated Bank Windhoek Long Course National Swimming Championships is set to place this coming weekend at the at the Olympia swimming pool in Windhoek, where a total of 158 swimmers will battle it out in 1 370 events.

The championships will start on Thursday and end on Sunday. Swimmers from all over the country, some as far as Oranjemund, will compete in this prestigious event, which will serve as the last chance for swimmers to qualify for the South African Prestige Age Group Championship, slated for March next year. Currently, juniors who stand a good chance to qualify are Zune Weber and Ronan Wantenaar.

The defending champions, Dolphins Swimming Club, look set for another big win at the championships with the biggest number of registered swimmers. They have a strong group of swimmers consisting of veteran swimmer Quinton Delie and the upcoming Heleni Stergiadis.

Namib Swimming Academy will be without some of their stars, as the Junior Swimming Team leaves for Lusaka before this weekend’s championships. Seniors Daniela Lindemeier, Christiaan Lamprecht and Jorn Diekmann will have to hold the fort, while junior, Zune Weber, will definitely be a potential challenger for selection as the junior victrix laudorum.

The competition promises to deliver heated action as young swimmers such as Corne le Roux, Rene Viljoen, Clarissa Esslinger, Heinrich Burger and Krynauw Weber,are expected to make headlines as they take on the competition for possible medals. The public are invited to come and support the swimmers as they compete in this prestigious event.
