HUAWEI celebrating 10 years in Namibia

Home National HUAWEI celebrating 10 years in Namibia

Founded in 1987, Huawei is a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. We are committed to bringing the digital experience to every person, home and organisation for a fully connected, intelligent world. We currently have approximately 194 000 employees, and operate in more than 170 countries and regions, serving more than three billion people around the world.

What we stand For
For the past 30 years, we have maintained an unwavering focus, rejecting shortcuts and easy opportunities that do not align with our core business. With a practical approach to everything we do, we concentrate our efforts and invest patiently to drive technological breakthroughs. This strategic focus is a reflection of our core values: staying customer-centric, inspiring dedication, persevering, and growing by reflection.

What we offer the world
We create value for our customers.
Along with our partners, we provide innovative and secure network equipment to telecom carriers. We provide our industry customers with open, flexible, and secure ICT infrastructure products, whilst offering customers stable, secure, and trustworthy cloud services that evolve with their needs. With our smartphones and other smart devices, we continue to improve people’s digital experiences in work, life, and entertainment.

We aim to always ensure secure and stable network operations.
We have made cyber security and privacy protection our top priorities since 2018. Over the past three decades, we have worked closely with our carrier customers to build over 1 500 networks in more than 170 countries and regions.

We promote industry development.
Huawei advocates for openness, collaboration, and shared success. Through joint innovation with our customers and partners, we are expanding the value of ICT, to develop a more robust and symbiotic industry ecosystem. Huawei is an active member of more than 400 standards organisations, industry alliances, and open source communities, where we work with our peers to develop mainstream standards and lay the foundation for shared success.

Our social impact within Namibia
In Namibia, in 2018, Huawei took up the clarion call in response to the war on poverty eradication, and together with our partners, donated close to N$10 million to The Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia towards the Buy-a-Brick Initiative, to build 250 housing units in the country. Huawei believes that decent, affordable housing is important to families, because, it not only fulfills a basic human need for shelter, but also contributes to the wellbeing of both parents and children as well as the economic vitality of communities.

In the same year, Huawei donated N$300 000 to the National Emergency Disaster Fund of Namibia. The donation was received by President Dr Hage Geingob, on behalf of government.

Huawei actively promotes ICT education, through the Seeds for the Future Programme. In 2019, Huawei recognised and rewarded the best performing ICT students with tools that promote the use of online lessons at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) to further their range of learning possibilities.

Our vision for Namibia for next decade
Namibia’s Vision 2030 places ICT at the forefront of development, in a bid to transform the country into an industrialised and knowledge-based society. As such, Vision 2030 wants to see the ICT sector stand as the pillar of the economy by 2030.

Huawei’s vision is to “bring digital to every person, home and organisation for a fully connected, intelligent world”. With this, we are ready to make a larger contribution to the country’s development.

In celebration of Namibia’s 30th independence, we stand ready to work together with the Government of the Republic of Namibia, telecommunications operators, information and communications technologies stakeholders in the broadband infrastructure development of Namibia in order to bring connectivity to all corners of Namibia during the next decade.  ◆
