Katamelo lands key Pan-African Parliament role

JOHANNESBURG – Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Philippus Katamelo has been appointed chairperson of the Permanent Committee on Cooperation, International Relations and Conflict Resolution of the Pan-African Parliament, marking a significant step in strengthening the leadership of a key African parliamentary body.

The Committee on Cooperation, International Relations and Conflict Resolution plays a vital role in shaping foreign policy engagement, fostering diplomatic ties, and addressing issues related to peace and conflict management. As chairperson, Katamelo is expected to guide the committee’s strategic direction and contribute to oversight, policy discussions and stakeholder engagement.

In his new role, Katamelo is expected to work closely with fellow committee members to enhance the effectiveness of the committee’s work. This includes engaging regional and international partners, contributing to legislative reviews, and ensuring African interests are well represented in global forums.

Katamelo is leading Namibia’s delegation from both houses of Parliament at the Extraordinary Session of the 7th Pan-African Parliament underway in Midrand, South Africa.

The delegation comprises Hon. Rodney Cloete, Hon. Olivia Hanghuwo, Hon. Tjimutambo Kuuoko and Hon. Alpheus !Naruseb.
